Site Requirements

This site makes use of 3rd party plugi-ins and applications. We use Macromedia Flash, Apple QuickTime, and Adobe Acrobat Reader. Windows Media Player video files are provided if you do not have QuickTime. You will need Microsoft PowerPoint or the free PowerPoint Viewer (Windows, Mac) to view PowerPoint slides in the Additional Reading section.

Installing Macromedia Flash Player

Some of the diagrams, movies, audio, and our quiz takes advantage of Flash technology. Please use the link below to download Flash.

Installation for PC or compatible
  • Internet Explorer
    • Click on the link above ("Download now")
    • Then, click on Automatic Installation.
  • Netscape Communicator or compatible
    • Click on the "Download now" button.
    • When downloading is completed, run the program.
    • The program automatically finds your Netscape Communicator version and installs the plug-in.
Installation for Mac
  • Internet Explorer and Netscape Communicator or compatible
    • Click on the link above ("Download now").
    • An Installer icon will appear on your desktop. Double-click on it.
    • Read and click through the dialog boxes.
    • When the Install button appears, click it to install Macromedia Flash Player in your browser's plug-in folder.

Installing QuickTime Player


  • If QuickTime 6 or higher is not installed, click the link above for the most recent version.
  • Fill out optional registration information. Click "Free Download Now."
  • Windows: The QuickTime installation process will begin with a pop-up screen that asks, "Do you want to install and run QuickTime Installer." Click "Yes."
    Mac: The QuickTime Player Installer will download to the Desktop.
    Once the download is complete, double-click the icon to install QuickTime.
  • A series of screens will appear - follow the onscreen instructions by clicking "Next" and clicking "Yes" to the License Agreement.
  • Windows: After the installation is complete, a prompt will ask for "File Type Associations." Leave this configuration at the default settings by clicking "Finish." (Default settings will leave previously established configurations that may have been set with other players, viewers and software. This screen can be returned to later if desired.)
  • Click on "Close" once QuickTime has been completely installed.
  • Mac: Once installation is complete a restart is required to complete the process. Click "Restart" before proceeding any further.

 

Installing Acrobat Reader

Acrobat Reader is a free software module, which allows you to view and print well formatted PDF (Portable Document Format) documents available on the website.

Installation for PC, Mac or compatible
  • Click on the link above ("Download now")
  • Select Language, Connection Speed and Platform.
  • Step 2 will appear once you select Platform. Fill out optional registration information. Click "Continue." On the next page, click "Download."
  • When downloading is completed, you may run the program
  • Follow the self-installation instructions
  • After installation, you may restart your computer to use this plug-in

Installing Windows Media Player

Windows Media Player is a free software designed for viewing videos, it was first developed for Windows platforms. You can use either the Windows Media player or any of the other players proposed to view the videos; Windows Media player is recommended for PC users only, as it should be preinstalled on your system. If it is not installed on your system, please follow the installation instructions.

The videos on this site require Windows Media Player version 9 or higher.

Installation for PC, Mac or compatible
  • Click on the link above ("Download now")
  • Click "Download now" to start the download, click Open or Run this program from its current location. To copy the download to your computer for installation at a later time, click Save or Save this program to disk.
Installation for PC, Mac or compatible

  • Once the download is complete, double-click the icon to install QuickTime. You may have to uncompress the installer (double-click the icon to uncompress it)

Windows Media Player help
  • To open your Windows Media Player Help in Windows:
    • Open Windows Media Player by selecting Start, Programs, Windows Media Player.
    • Open Help by selecting Help Contents from the Help menu in the upper-right corner of Windows Media Player.
  • To open your Windows Media Player Help in Mac OS X:
    • Open Windows Media Player by double-clicking the Windows Media Player icon in your Applications folder or on your desktop.
    • Open Help by selecting Windows Media Player Online Help from the Help menu in the upper right corner of Windows Media Player.
